Clothes are one of four basic needs that people create to help cover our body in the part that sensitive and delicate from the dirtiness or the irritant surface. The apparel design for convenient in any particular activity and occasion that our body has to confront each day. So, apparel coming with function and pleasing in the proper component.
Nowadays, social media come and take a big role in people life. Everything around us changes action and role in unexpected ways. Also in the fashion industry, the role of apparel is distorted.
In the world of social media, apparel is enhanced in the point of aesthetically pleasing more than the functional one. The thing that shows on social media is only visual without considering the function and convenience of our body in reality. The question is ‘How social media influence people willing to wear aesthetically pleasing apparel without comfortable and functional?’
The statement is ‘Social media changes the purpose of apparel from being functional to only aesthetically pleasing.’ The purpose of my project is to raise awareness for people in the internet era who influenced clothes choice by social media. Because of this behavior make apparel effect on our health and emotion by the unfunctional for everyday needs. However, people still willing to wear this kind of clothes. Because people focus on pleasing more than the function.
From the Retail-insight analysis told that ‘The demand for fashion to be fully accessible has led to the increasing influence of social media in the clothing shopper journey.’
30.4% of UK clothing shoppers use social media to inspire their clothing choices, up 2.5% on the previous year.
From Josephrosenfeldi’s fashion consultancy from the UK told that ‘Fitting in equates with acceptance, and acceptance is comfort. So here, the causes and effects of comfort in clothes matter to many people and executives.’ From the information support the personal statement and question that social media affect clothes choice of people to be accepted and to be pleasing on social media.
For the project approach, I will research more on differences theory about feminism, authoritarianism, capitalism, and male guesses to support my project to find more interest. And I will experiment on many different media to find interesting media to express my project.
